Challenges

Brighton, a visionary master-planned community spanning 867 acres, is developed by Dream, one of Canada’s leading real estate companies. The community required a scalable website that could evolve alongside its development. The project was divided into three phases: Phase 1 focused on the housing side of the website, Phase 2 introduced a rental section, and Phase 3 refined the rental search functionality using a new API provider.

Key challenges included:

  • Conducting UX research to address the needs of homebuyers, residents, renters, and builders.
  • Defining a scalable website structure to accommodate future expansions.
  • Drafting wireframes to guide content creation.
  • Designing an engaging and interactive website with rich functionalities.
  • Delivering a fully responsive design optimized for all devices.
Processes

Phase 1 (2022): Building the Housing Section

  1. Conducted UX research to map user journeys for homebuyers, residents, and builders, collaborating with the client’s marketing team to craft a scalable sitemap for future phases.
  2. Drafted wireframes to guide copywriters in structuring content and planned interactive features.
  3. After the senior UX/UI designer established general design directions and client approval of one option, I created high-fidelity designs for the remaining pages.
  4. Designed prototypes for interactive features such as animations, maps, and showhome sliders to enhance engagement and simplify navigation.

Phase 2 (2023): Adding the Rental Section

  1. Designed wireframes for rental-specific pages, including the rentals landing page, rental project page, and rental unit page.
  2. Created UI designs for these sections while ensuring alignment with the overall website aesthetic. The rental search functionality was initially handled by another team member.

Phase 3 (2024-2025): Refining Rental Search Functionality

  1. Revised the rental search functionality by providing multiple wireframe directions to improve usability and align with client expectations.
  2. Designed and prototyped an updated search tool that allowed renters to easily filter units by price, specifications, styles, and other criteria.
Results

The Brighton community website successfully launched as a dynamic hub for all aspects of the community. It provided intuitive tools like showhome filters for homebuyers and rental search functionalities for renters, enabling users to easily navigate options based on their preferences. Interactive features such as maps and sliders further enhanced engagement and simplified navigation.

The scalable structure ensures the website can continue evolving alongside Brighton’s development. Its success is reflected in its role as an essential resource for prospective buyers, renters, residents, and builders alike.
